Shouldn't hurt from a functional standpoint, but they look like some voids in the casting, if there are any in the bore that wouldn't be good.  Unless I was in a hurry I would probably err on the side of caution and return it.  If you tell them it is defective and can attach a pic you may get lucky and they will send one out without asking for a return.

Those aren’t chips, it’s just a janky-ass casting that didn’t clean-up. It’s just going through the firewall there and it’s free in the air so I wouldn’t go through the bullshit of returning it. You’ll probably get one with casting issues somewhere else.

Doesn’t bode well for the overall quality but it’s kinda par for the course on re-man or even new cylinders of the older Japanese stuff.

I am a stickler but since that looks like a non structural casting artifact that can’t be seen I would use it.
